Lough Corrib from the Seanbothar, Clonbur

I walk this 'old road' between Clonbur and Cornamona villages, almost every week, it's like a physical meditation session for me, rarely to I meet anyone on it, whereas there would have been many a person to meet in the centuries gone by. Old stone cottages, in ruins lie along the way, from Famine times in the mid-19th Century, and many have the names of those farmers and tenants who lived in these tiny dwellings set in the stone wall of the roadway, to honour their lives along these grassy slopes overlooking Lough Corrib. They were harrowing times for these Irish people, who lived meagre lives in penury. I pray for them as I trek the slopes of these hillsides, and I feel their spirits with me.
